District Governor's Acceptance Speech

Distinguish Lions and Leos, it is my honour to formally accept the position and responsibility of the office of the District Governor of Lions Clubs International District 404A2, Nigeria for the 2024/2025 Lions year. As your District Governor, I promise to coordinate the district leadership to address the huge challenges affecting the growth of the Clubs in the District as regards membership increase. We shall strive to encourage retention and rekindle commitment to recruiting quality persons into our noble association.

This is the time to close ranks to shape, reshape, and build on the gains of our past leaders for a strong and high performing district. Running a voluntary office is not limited to the ideas of the current office holder. In you are all leaders beginning at your club level and should contribute to the way the district is being managed. Our association is evolving and there are many new perspectives regarding the office of the DG, therefore, I sincerely invite you to bring up great ideas, feedback and suggestions on ways we can continually improve our services to impact our communities positively.

To this end, we shall open feedback loops in all the regions where you can all share your novel ideas on how best we can grow our district and improve our service to humanity. Offering needed services is the driving force behind our service activities this Lions year. Our concern as a pragmatic vessel of service is to encourage clubs and individuals to focus on finding practical solutions to the felt needs of our communities rather than providing services for the sake of carrying out service activities. Clubs, therefore, are enjoined to conduct community needs assessments, involve community members in identifying their expressed needs, and apply the most effective course of action to achieve desired outcomes. As Bill de Blasio holds "you are either a dreamer or a realist". Do not just tick the box for service, impact on the lives of the people we serve. Be pragmatic in your service pursuit in order to meet our communities at the point of their felt needs. I am thankful to all Lions and Leos for the confidence and trust to hand over the mantle of leadership of our district to me. On my honor, I promise not to disappoint you.

My sincere gratitude goes to God Almighty, who made it possible at the appointed time for me to assume the office of the District Governor. I return all glory to him alone. May I passionately thank my dear wife Elfreda and my lovely children for standing by me throughout the electioneering and succession period. Your prayers and moral support created the needed atmosphere for this achievement. My deep appreciation goes to the Director General and members of the MOI team for putting up a robust campaign effort and succession plan. You are a team to work with. I also extend my gratitude to the president and members of Calabar Atakpa Lions Club for supporting my ambition for this position. I promise that I will not let you down.

Finally, I am most thankful to the Elders forum of our district who are always willing to help and whose experiences will be required to steer the Pragmatic vessel of service to a safe shore. Thank you all and God bless

Lion Sir Maurice Ibok Ph.D, PMJF, NLCF

Lions Invocation

When I attend my lions club And break at the table I gave a million thanks to God To know that I am able to meet there With my fellow man Relax and play and sing To hear the speakers of the day The fine thoughts that they bring I realize that I have a part In caring for the blind Also the underpriviledged Let’s keep them all in mind Now as we do our daily tasks Pray God we do them greatly Then liberty and intelligence Will be our Nations safety
